Significant Tips to Make our Dishwasher Durable

The life span of your dishwasher is up to 10 years, but it will most likely develop problems or sometimes break within beginning 5 years.
Some factors will build up and contribute to the breakdown of your appliance. How you take care of it matters.
Here are ways to make your dishwasher last long.

Wash Dishes Solely

Sometimes, you find random information that you can use your washer to wash items other than dishes. Washing items like candlestick holders, running shoes, car parts, and the likes will ruin your washer and items.
Car parts are greasier than normal dishes and this extra grease can’t be handled by ordinary detergent and your washer. The grease, in turn, clogs your filter and damages the pump.

Running shoes have more dirt particles that would clog the filter, too. Residue wax from candlestick holders would melt and sip into every crevice and destroy the machine’s components.

Don’t Overload your Washer

Every dishwasher has a manual guide on their capacity and numbers of plates to wash at once. Going above specified indication is considered as overloading your washer. This will restrict water circulation and prevent proper cleaning.
The balance in your washer will also loosen and your washer’s life span gets chipped off. Underloading is equally destructive. Follow the minimum and maximum loading of your washer as not to underload or overload.

Scrape Dishes Down

Scraping your plates before loading them into your washer is the right way to use your washer to protect it from breaking down. When food debris stuck to plates is washed, they go down blocking the filter. We all know a clogged filter is no friend to your appliance.
Leaks and overfilling develops once your filter is clogged. Manually clean your filter and remove food particles stuck to it.
Don’t rinse plates before loading them, too. Most washers don’t need your plates rinsed. As long as toothpicks, bones, solid grains, and other solid items are scraped, your washer is safe. Failure to clear them can cause your filter to clog and tear, clog your drain hose, and damage the pump.

Remove Residues

When plates are not properly scraped, food debris collects in your machine. Food residues in the machine are to be cleaned as often as possible. Grease should be properly wiped down, too.
If your area of residence contains hard water, your machine will collect mineral films and have a whitish or greyish discoloration will be formed.

Using citric acid-based dishwasher cleaners and detergent will remove these films or weaken them enough to be wiped away. Using lime juice to clean your washer will reduce the rate of accumulation, too.

Inspecting Drain Hose, Spray Arms, and Water Pipes

Check your spray arms well to ensure the holes in them are not obstructed and clean. If obstructed, gently remove particles with toothpick or pipe cleaner.
Inspect your drain hose for debris and clean them out if found, letting it accumulate will clog the hose. A clogged hose will allow little or no water drain from your washer, causing a leaking or overflowed washer.
Inspect your water pipes for rusts and dirt. Rust in your water pipes will make your washer and dishes smell musty and rusty. It will also discolour your dishes and washer.

Using the Right Cycle for your Dishes
While heavy wash will vigorously clean dishes that haven’t been rinsed, a normal cycle cleans food particles from slightly soiled dishes. Using the wrong cycle will most likely create problems for your items and washer alike

Properly maintaining your dishwasher will prolong its life and reduce risks to health, appliances, and utensils. Repair faults and damage immediately, so they won’t get more complicated.
Clean your gasket so seals don’t break and make your washer malfunction. Air dry washer to ensure proper drying and prevent musty odour.
