For a wine lover or a wine collector, the texture, colour, and taste of your wine are very important to you. This is what makes your Wine cooler a very essential appliance. Proper storage of your wine make’s it retains an exceptional taste especially when it’s time to take blissful sips after a long day at work.
It doesn’t feel nice when you invest in gathering a collection of exquisite wine bottles and purchase a new wine cooler to store them properly, then the wine cooler breaks down in just a few weeks.
You end up losing the money spent on the wine because you might not get the great taste you crave for and also lose the money spent on the wine cooler or go the extra mile of paying for the repair of your wine cooler. To avoid this kind of scenario, it is important to note the mistakes you shouldn’t make with your wine cooler so that it can work efficiently and last longer.
1. Overloading
It’s important to examine the number of wine bottles you will likely collect per time before deciding on the size of the wine cooler to buy. If you buy a small-sized cooler and your overload it, you will force it to overwork which will eventually damage some parts of the cooler.
It will be difficult for the cool air to circulate and cool all the jampacked bottles thus some parts might remain warm. This affects the taste of wine as the cooler may not function properly. It’s better to purchase a large wine cooler than get a small-sized one which will not ensure the effective cooling of all the bottles.
2. Reach of Sunlight
Facing your wine cooler directly to the sun rays is a very wrong step to take. Your wine cooler should be kept in a cool and dark place, away from sunlight and ultraviolet rays. Exposing your wine coolers and bottles to direct sunlight will alter the taste of your wine.
The excessive heat will also affect the wine cooler’s functioning as it will be trying to find a balance between the heat from direct sunlight and the cooling system inside.
The hot rays from the sun can affect the coating of the cooler. Direct rays from the sun will hit your wine bottles if the wine cooler has a transparent glass door.
This shows how important the placement of your wine cooler is. It should be installed in a place that is cool, dark, and not more than 80 in temperature.
3. Tight corners
Proper ventilation is very important for the effectiveness of the wine cooler. Backing it all up in a very tight corner wouldn’t give enough space for the level of ventilation that is needed.
When the air around the wine cooler isn’t refreshed or cool, then the heat produced by the coils of the wine cooler will not be dispersed. It will cause the wine cooler to overheat and it will be damaged in the long run.
Consider ventilation during installation and make sure that the wine cooler is at least 2-5 inches away from the wall so that there can be air space behind the wine cooler
4. Unlevelled ground placement
Ensure your floor where you want to install wine cooler is levelled. Placing the cooler on a surface that is unleveled causes vibration.
A vibrating wine cooler will cause the bottles in it to vibrate too. Continuous vibrations can cause cracking of the bottles also the vibration of the wine cooler can cause separation in the wine ingredients causing some to settle at the bottom of the Bottle.
5. Not cleaning the cooler
When it’s not cleaned at intervals, there will be a build-up of frost and excessive moisture which can cause the growth of moulds in the cooler.
When your cooler has a mouldy smell, you will not feel excited about drinking wine from such a smelly wine cooler. Besides, it’s not hygienic to have mould growth over a wine bottle that you plan to consume its content.
Cleaning your cooler gives you a chance to quickly detect any problem with it before any noticeable breakdown.
