Mistakes to Avoid While Planning Your Kitchen Design

The kitchen is a part of your home that you can almost not avoid using daily. It’s a place in the home that is designed to prepare one of the most essential needs in life, food. So there’s hardly any day that you can avoid doing one or two things in the kitchen
Seeing how necessary the kitchen is, it is important to consider the layout well enough. This is so that it can be comfortable and easy to use. If your kitchen
layout is poor or clumsy, it’ll make all kitchen activities tiring and slow.

You don’t want to be cooking the delicious meal that you already thought about and start struggling to get around the kitchen with the ingredients spilling
all over because you keep bumping into things.
For a place you cannot avoid like the kitchen, it is important to learn how to set it up neat and nice for a pleasant experience on every visit.

There are common mistakes people make when laying out their kitchen design that ends up making it less efficient. From this post, recognise them and ensure you don’t make those mistakes out of ignorance.

Putting the Sink, Stove, and Refrigerator Too Close To Each Other

The refrigerator is used to store the foods by keeping them cool and fresh, the sink is used to clean the food collected from the fridge and the stove is used to
 cook the food.

There is hardly any activity in the kitchen where you don’t use at least two of these appliances.

Placing them too close to each other will not give space for movement and also ventilation for these appliances. Since each of them is constantly used, there must be space for proper air ventilation.

It’s going to feel jam-packed if these three appliances are placed too close to each other. Also, ensure that there is no obstruction in the middle of these three appliances.

Not enough counter space

When trying to manage kitchen space, it is still very important to have spaces on either side of the sink, both sides preferably. You can easily place bowls and plates on these spaces when they are dirty and you are not ready to wash them.

It can also be used for clean plates and pots when they are washed and dry but you are not ready to stack them in the dish rack yet. This space can be used to place the dish rack if you do not have a two-hole sink.

Putting The Sink, Dishwasher, and Garbage Area Too Far Apart From Each Other

These three parts of the kitchen function hand in hand. If they are too far apart it could make the activities that link them up to become tiring.

Some people prefer to rinse their dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. It’ll be a perfect arrangement for the dishwasher to be as close as possible
 to the sink.

The garbage area also needs to be close because dirt gathered from washing things in the sink will have to go there.  Keeping them close to each other makes
the whole work easy and swift.

Positioning the Cooktop Lower Than the Counter Surface

Ideally, the surface of your cooktop should be on the same level as your counter surface. Positioning it lower will make the heat from the cooktop to keep
heating the counter.
With time the counter material will start to wear out. It’s better to keep them on the same level or if possible make the cooktop higher.

Inadequate storage space

It is necessary to ensure that you have enough cabinet rooms in your kitchen. This is so that you can properly store all utensils that are not in use at
any moment.

Having utensils that are not in use all over the kitchen without proper arrangement will make the kitchen clumsy. You stand the risk of bumping into things,
getting confused, and even sustaining an injury.

It is better when all the bowls and pots that are not in use are arranged in drawers.

Thoughtfully arranging each appliance for your convenience is a necessary phase for you to have an effective and easy-to-use kitchen space.
Apart from the fact that this is good for you, it is also good for your appliances. Arranging them in such a way that it is well ventilated will keep the appliances
running under a good condition which will make them last longer.
