Ways to Prevent Fire Outbreaks from Home Appliances

As much as our household appliances help make our daily living comfortable and stress-free, they have many times been the cause of fire accidents in homes. Electrical appliances can begin to produce sparks that can lead to a fire outbreak if care is not taken.
If you have a modernized home setting where you use one appliance or the other for almost every chore, then you need to understand how you can prevent a fire outbreak from happening in your home as a result of using any of your appliances.

1. Put your appliances off when not in use.

One of the major reasons for fire outbreaks is when voltage surge occurs which may follow after power is restored. This is why it is always advisable to put off appliances when not in use.

2. Cleaning the lint in your dryer.

Lint is usually found in the dryer after its operation.
Lint is an extremely flammable substance and causes a lot of houses to get burned down every year. It is important that the dryer is cleaned professionally to reduce fire risk.

3. Avoid fixing an appliance you know nothing about.

In a bid not to spend at all or reduce the cost of repairing an appliance, many people tend to open up an appliance to repair it themselves.
These appliances require expertise to get them repaired and that is why it is often advised to get a professional to handle the repair to avoid malfunctioning of the appliance which can also cause fire outbreaks.

4. Overloaded circuit

Do not plug many appliances into one electric socket point. It can lead to a fire outbreak because the amperage level will be higher than recommended and it will eventually cause damage.

5. Usage of faulty appliances
When an appliance is faulty, it’s better to get a professional to repair it other than continual usage in its bad state. A breach of connection inside faulty appliances has resulted in many fire outbreaks.

6. Don’t use incompatible materials with your appliances.

For example, using aluminium foil with the microwave can cause a fire outbreak. Also using metal in the microwave can cause fire outbreaks as well or sparks that can destroy your appliance.
It is good to know the best materials for each appliance to prevent sudden surges and fire outbreaks.

7. Get a Thunder Arrestor.

A thunderstorm delivers a huge amount of electrical charge. The work of a Thunder Arrestor is to safely lead this current away from the building to the earth to avoid fire.

Understanding and making use of the above fire prevention tips will help you use your appliances appropriately while protecting yourself, your family, and neighbours from any form of appliance-related fire disaster.
