How to Keep your Appliances in Perfect Condition

Keeping your appliances in perfect condition should be a priority if you want to keep your home safe, clean, and organised. Your health and safety should be the first thing you consider when you’re dealing with appliances.

Having them in perfect condition eradicates at least 70% of bacteria and reduces your chances of falling sick. It also extends productivity and makes them available to use at any time.

Displaced, dirty, and faulty appliances are not just dangerous to health. It can immediately turn into a nightmare for everyone around and not just you. A faulty microwave that isn’t taken care of properly can cause an explosion.

Not cleaning your appliances and observing proper care is dangerous. Yes. But, going about cleaning them the wrong way is equally dangerous. Not taking necessary precautions, failing to employ proper tools and following correct procedures is just as hazardous, if not more than.

If you are not confident enough to clean and make simple repairs on your appliances, simply call professionals to deal with any perceived threat. However, you can have your appliances in perfect condition with the steps below.

Refrigerator
Cleaning may be time-consuming, like any other activity, but your time is well worth it. Having a clean refrigerator elevates your mood. Nothing dampens your cooking mood like opening your fridge and being met with disorganised food items and bad odour.

Unplug and take out everything in your fridge, racks, and drawers included. Cleaning from top to bottom is the proper way. Clean out stains, food spill, and grease residue to ensure proper functioning and so that gasket doesn’t overwork itself to keep up, too.

Pull your fridge out to expose the coils. If they are dirty and dusty, lightly clean them off. Ensure the right temperature is set and freezer defrosts properly.

If you use a freezer that needs defrosting manually, make sure to check ice build-updoesn’t go beyond 2 inches deep. Defrost then and your refrigerator runs like new.
Washing Machine
Observing proper care while using your machine keeps its condition up to par. A washer that won’t do its job of washing clothes can be frustrating, which is why it should be cared for properly.

Ensuring that the filter of your washer is clean is important in keeping it in good condition. Clean the filter its cavity properly before replacing it.

Prevent odour by using vinegar to run a hot wash. Avoid overloading or underloading the drum when washing and make sure water drains properly.

Using wrong or excessive detergent would create more damage than do any good. Too much detergent doesn’t make the clothes clean. Instead, use the recommended brand of detergent sparsely with white vinegar to wash clothes. Don’t let soap suds accumulate, either.

Dishwasher
Keeping your dishwasher cleaned and maintained is as easy as it gets. If your machine has a manual filter, you will have to clean the filter manually so that particles don’t stick to your washer and make it stink.

Clean the drum by running an empty, hot wash with first, vinegar, and then have baking soda sprinkled for a second cycle. This eliminates stains, build-ups of grease and grime, and bad smell.

Ensure all necessary parts are cleaned regularly. Avoid overloading the washer and washing inappropriate items if you want your washer to stay in good condition.
Microwave Oven
This can be the easiest appliance to use in your household when used right. But, using your microwave wrong can quickly go from making life easier to disastrous. You may think a few burnt foods here and a couple of spills there won’t do much harm if you leave it unattended for a little while. Halt that line of thought!

An accumulation of these spills and drips can catch fire and may burn the inner plastic of the microwave. On a bad day, the fire would become dense and may cause the microwave to explode and burn down things in its path.

Wipe gaskets and control panel carefully.

Microwave a bowl with lemon or vinegar on high to create enough steam that would deodorize and breakdown bacteria build-up.
Oven and Cooktops
It is easy to clean your oven with products of your choice, be it natural solutions or commercial cleaners. Lemon, baking soda, or vinegar can make the messiest oven clean and bacteria-free like the first time it was bought.

Just take out the rack and bulb, if it’s in it. Wipe down grease, food debris, ash, stains, and spills with your chosen solution. Never try to clean your oven or the cooktop while it is in use or still hot!

Once the oven is clean, the risk of unpleasant odour and fire will be removed. Oven gets to work at top performance, too. Your cooktops should be wiped down thoroughly and regularly. Do not position your oven next to your refrigerator. Never use aluminium foils in your oven or on cooktops.
Dryer
The key to a well maintained, clean, and safe dryer is a clean filter. Your dryer’s lint filter should be properly cleaned before every use.

It is also advisable to clean the machine by a professional once or twice a year to prevent fire hazards from lint that might have escaped through the filter into your machine’s system.
Clean the exhaust vent by detaching it from the dryer and cleaning out the built-up lint. Check and clean the vent cap outside and avoid overloading.

Even after carefully cleaning and repairing, it is safer and better to have appliances checked and serviced as regularly as possible. This will prevent any sudden breakdown or disaster. The good condition of your appliances is your relief and easy living.

Taking all these steps to keep your appliances in perfect condition is a worthy time investment because these appliances are what make chores easy and fast. If they go bad, you will have to tolerate the inconvenience that comes with it. It’s better to understand how to take care of them so that you can get the best out of them.
