Does your Kitchen Need a Range Hood? – Find Out Now!

There are a lot of factors that determine how your home looks, smells, and feels to you, your family, and anyone who visits your home.

It’s interesting that your household appliances get to play a part in all of these. One appliance that plays a role in how your home smells is your Range Hood. The aroma of deliciously cooked food is great at first until it starts to linger for too long until it becomes a bad odour.

A range hood that is installed in your kitchen will immediately draw up any lingering smell, smoke, or pollutants that are released during cooking activities. It’ll keep the air refreshed. So no bad odour or smoke smell will be able to spread to other parts of your home.

A range hood is important because when grease splattered during cooking isn’t extracted or pulled out, it stains the kitchen walls and even starts to lead to a build-up of moulds that are infectious.

It makes cooking easy as the fan in it blows over the heat produced from your steaming pot of stew or fried foods. With a Range Hood in your kitchen, there will be no need to wade off smoke with your hands to have a clear view of what you a boiling.

Different range hood types suit different kitchen settings or types of kitchen. To know which one works well for your kitchen setting, continue reading.

How to Choose a Range Hood for your Kitchen

Depending on the size of the kitchen, the hoods to choose will differ from each other. For small kitchens, it is ideal is to opt for integral hoods. In kitchens where there is an island, you can choose hoods with much more powerful and large designs.
To purchase a hood, it is good to know all the types of range hoods available. Hoods are classified mainly by their extraction system. Types of range hood based on their extraction system include;

  • Ducted Range Hood: This is a type of hood with a vent that leads outside. It pulls up smoke, grease, and other unwanted pollutants that are released while cooking and dispels them outside the kitchen through a vent.

  • Ductless Range Hood: This type is different because it doesn’t dispel outside the home, instead the air pulled up is filtered and then dispelled back into the kitchen. It uses a kind of recirculating system.

They can also be classified based on their position in the kitchen, like;

  • Under-cabinet range hood: Fits well in between cabinets or under-the-range kitchen cabinets. It’s perfect for a small sized-kitchen where you don’t want your range hood to visibly take up space.
  • Wall mount range hood: Usually has its vent showing and is installed on the wall.
  • Ceiling mount range hood: Attached directly to the ceiling.
  • Down vent range hood: Usually placed behind the cooker and it pulls smoke and grease downward.
  • Island range hood: Installed above an island cooking area, mostly at the center of the kitchen.
  • Integral range hood: Is integrated or installed between cabinets.

When choosing a hood, many options are available to choose from. You can opt for a decorative hood that comes in various sizes, or for an integral range hood that is specifically perfect for small spaces and can be hidden in a cabinet. You could also choose a superficial hood which is usually installed directly on the counter, etc.

As for the recommended size for the hood, ideally, it should be the same width as the hob, however, it should be noted that if it is larger than the hob it will be much better as this will improve the absorption capacity of the hood.

Range Hoods can be used in almost all homes since it is affordable and it consumes less energy than any other equipment in the kitchen.

Depending on the model to be acquired, the amount of energy it will use, and the cost it will incur can be calculated. If you choose a hood that works with minimum power, the cost will be around 70w/ h, while for hoods that operate at maximum speed, it will generate a cost of about 200 w / h.

To reduce the expenses that come with owning a range hood, use the control button to set to a minimum while using it, although this decision will depend on what you are cooking since sometimes it will require a higher power due to the large generation of smells and grease when cooking.

The understanding of the importance of a range hood and the type needed for your kitchen will help you secure comfortable cooking experiences.
